‘Green Manure’ is specific to crops grown for plowing under (or ’till in’, or ’till under”). Green manure crops are typically annuals, such as the Soil Builder Mixes, Vetches, and Bell Beans. Most seed that is classified as Green Manure adds significant amounts of nitrogen and organic matter to the soil.

‘Annual Cover Crops’ Choke out weeds and provide nectar for beneficial insects. If desired, plant them with grains (oats, barley, or rye) which support upright vining growth and act as a nurse crop. In most areas, vetches need to establish early and should be seeded at the beginning of fall.

‘PERENNIAL COVER CROPS’

These irrigated varieties will remain green and lush year round, providing excellent habitat for beneficial insects. Well-suited for permanent covers in orchards, vineyards, and bush berries. Once established, they require only occasional mowing or grazing to keep down weed competition.
